Should I moisturise after using a serum?
Moisturisers can help to seal in a serum, helping to prevent transepidermal water loss, and enhance the efficacy of the serum by ensuring better absorption and retention of active ingredients. To use them together, start with a clean face, apply the serum and let it fully absorb, then follow with a moisturiser to lock in the benefits and provide additional hydration and protection.
However, there are some exceptions. If you use a hydrating serum with high levels of moisturising ingredients like hyaluronic acid, or if you have very oily skin or live in a humid climate, you might find a serum alone is sufficient. In most cases, though, following up with a moisturiser is recommended to ensure your skin stays hydrated and the benefits of the serum are maximised.
