The power of science

Plant-based squalane is a derivative of squalane, found in the skin's hydrolipidic film and present in a high proportion in human sebum. It is synthesized by the sebaceous glands and can also be found in plants, prokaryotic organisms, yeast and microalgae. It helps to naturally reinforce the hydrolipidic film. Squalane gets its name from when it was first discovered in the liver of a shark (Squalas mitsukurii). Today, thanks to advances in biotechnology, plant-based squalane can be produced from cane sugar, to be used in the cosmetic industry.
