Bidens pilosa is a fine grass that can grow to 1m in height, which produces small yellow flowers that develop into small black fruits. Its other name of "cobbler's pegs" comes from the tiny hooks on its surface that make it stick to most objects, enabling it to be dispersed over wide areas, for example by catching onto animal fur. Originating in Latin America, it is known in many countries for its anti-inflammatory and antibacterial actions. These properties have given it warrior status among local populations. In Rwanda, for example, it is literally called “fights with arrows for humankind” (inyabarasanya).
