The power of plants

According to legend, God pulled the baobab out of heaven and replanted it on Earth upside down because it was too proud. Hence the tree’s large, swollen trunk and gnarled branches that resemble enormous roots. The baobab is an emblematic tree of sub-Saharan Africa and, like the shea tree, is also known as the "tree of life". It stands out for its enormous size, incredible lifespan (some claim around 2,000 years) and multiple uses and benefits.

Responsible sourcing

Protecting soil and biodiversity is a long-standing commitment at Clarins. Our oil is extracted from baobab grown in Burkina Faso and Senegal. Through a sustainable development bonus, Clarins is taking part in a reforestation and training programme to help educate farmers about composting. This helps to raise awareness among local communities about environmental conservation and using natural fertilizers to regenerate soils.
